The best plans I have found are these ones. Amazingly, when looking around the web for boat plans and boat designs, DIY boat projects all links lead to the plans this guy has built. Click here to see for yourself.

Building your own boat can turn into quite a project but Daniels’ designs target both the experienced and the novice boat builder with little or no woodworking experience.

All you really need is an empty room or garage in which to build the boat, some simple tools and you can build it in a few weeks in your spare time.

all the free plans I have tried out were really mediocre in design and detail and the worst part is that there is no support for the plans if you get stuck so I think I am going to go ahead and purchase the plans either from Daniel or a similar professional product.

Lately I have become very interested in sailing.

Now this can be fun but it is also a bit hairy as I have a tendency to fall head over heels once I decide I’m gonna do something and I’m not sure my wife is going to love this new venture of mine……but you only live once – right?

Anyway, my idea came to me one day when I was walking my two Huskies – I want to build a boat!!!

And then I forgot about it. You know how it is – work, wife, kids, wife, dogs, wife…….hehe – I love my wife, don’t get me wrong….but you get the picture. However, the idea came back and this time it STUCK!!! I would build a boat in which all of us (except the huskies) could go sailing in.

I got really excited and started looking for ideas about where to begin.

To my utter surprise – I’m not alone. seriously – there are thousands of people whom have already gone and built a boat! Some have built a rowing boat, some a fishing boat, some a canoe.  How great is that? Well, if they can….so can I!!! I’m thinking maybe a small wooden row boat or maybe a dingy…we’ll see.

but the problem is, again – where and how to start?
